Inspired by the song:

"I Will Sail My Vessel" , by Garth Brooks

Relates directly from scripture from the Bible: 2Corinthians 4:7 which speaks of earthen vessels "This treasure we possess in earthen vessels, to make it clear* that its surpassing power comes from God and not from us." There is a nautical theme with the color blue throughout the painting. The bird represents a line in the song "Like a bird upon the wind, these waters are my sky." The bird is located in the upper left hand corner of the painting which represents what we see and observe. The right side of the painting represents the circle of life and intuition. The ray of light is centered in the painting. It is broken into three sections representing the Trinity as well as the circles, with blue in three's. This represents the spiritual path in life. The sail on the vessel is white representing purity with green down the middle representing health.

I would like to thank everyone here tonight for attending the celebration and book release event for "Off The Beaten Path". Many thanks to my publisher, Pat J. Schulz of ENHEART Publishing, Inc., located in Charlotte, NC, for the creative design of the work and who I feel truly had the vision for this project; to Karen Gaines, of Charlotte, NC, for the graphic design of "Off The Beaten Path"; to Nancy Montz-Rayfield, Branch Manager of the Lake Wylie Library for hosting this event and also for taking the time to review the work for commentary; to Kristin Sessions, Development Coordinator of the Arts Council of York County, for review of the work, and to the Arts Community in both South Carolina and North Carolina for support and encouragement.; to Father Fabio of All Saints Catholic Church, for review and enabling a portion of the proceeds from sales of "Off The Beaten Path", 20%, to aid with the ALL SAINTS CHARITIES of Lake Wylie, SC; to my parents, John and Edna Schohn, my twin sister Gerie Schohn, my brother, John Schohn, and my daughter, Catherine, to whom I have dedicated this work; and to JacLynns Hallmark of Lake Wylie, for donating the congratulation balloons for this event this evening. "Off The Beaten Path" is my first book production. It is a collection of 10 years worth of artwork and poetry writings. It is a personal journey that takes readers through 4 different phases of life: The Flower Gardens (humor, beauty, earth, nature). Included are paintings such as "Spring Flowers", that show the viewer the beauty of spring, or the haiku, beauty of nature; The Sun Shadows (meditative, reflective learnings and insights), and speaks of the poem "DreamCatcher", dreams and sleeping visions, and is one of my favorite poems written over the years; The Rocky Road (tradegy, grief, and sorrowful learnings), including poems like "Pink Flamingos", written in memory of my niece Courtney Taylor of Charleston, South Carolina, who was killed tragically in an automobile accident, or the painting "Angel In Patriotic Pride", completed following the events of 9-11, and the spiritual rising of our country and spiritual connection that was felt by all of us after the tragic event and the poem "In Our World Today", that was written not long following the painting "Angel In Patriotic Pride", which is how my creative process works sometimes, in remembrance of 9-11; and The Ultimate Destination (spiritual evolution), which the spiritual path is something we all strive for in life, such as the poem "Led To Believe", which speaks of listening to His voice on high, or the painting "Angelic Affirmations 1" (Holy Spirit Series), that speaks to the scripture from the Bible, Isaiah 11:23 and the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. This piece of artwork is at the Phoenix Montessori School in Cornelius, North Carolina now. All samples of life experience and journey over a ten year period. "Off The Beaten Path". We had a GREAT time and turn out for the Lake Wylie Library book release event and reception for "Off The Beaten Path", a book of artwork and poetry writings completed over a 10 year period. I wish to say "many thanks" to the people involved with the event planning and set up, and to those who were able to attend the event for the evening. The event was held on February 9, 2010. I was extremely excited to celebrate the books completion, and I enjoyed giving a discussion about the book, which was a 4 year process, from the conception of the work, to the completed product. My publisher, Pat J. Schulz, founder of ENHEART Publishing, and located in Charlotte, NC, also discussed her company as well as the books production process. I enjoyed meeting and greeting longtime friends and family members there, as well as meeting some new faces.
